Keanu Reeves in "A Happening of Monumental Proportions"!

Now, I wouldn't be surprised if many of you are familiar with a significant number of films within Keanu Reeves' extensive repertoire (particularly, since his acting career spans more than 30 years). And if any of you are not familiar with many of his films, I certainly am, for Keanu Reeves happens to be my most endearing Muse. This week, the 2017 film, "A Happening of Monumental Proportions", shall be our focal topic of discussion.

This was quite an interesting film, I must say. It even contained a number of comical elements within it, as well. And it was also directed by Ms. Judy Greer; which surprised me because I did not know that she had started directing films. But, I found it rather entertaining; to say the least.

Brief Synopsis:
"During the course of one day, a group of students at a school in Los Angeles find themselves caught up in a plot of sex, lies and dead bodies." Written by an Anonymous writer at imdb.com
It was humorous how Keanu Reeves (as the "Bob" character) kept harassing Common (as the "Daniel" character) through a series of angry morning calls. Of course, anyone could understand that "Bob" was experiencing justified anger because his wife, "Nadine" (portrayed by Jennifer Garner), had recently cheated on him with "Daniel". Nevertheless, the inner psychologist in me was rather curious as to why all of his anger appeared to be directed towards the other man, rather than to both of these adulterous lovers.

This film also included humorous trouble surrounding a gardener who recently died just before the school that the "Daniel" character's daughter was attending. I refer to it as humorous, as three members of the faculty (including the principal) appeared to be having the most difficult time seeking the appropriate channels for handling the finding of a dead body (as in the medical examiner's or coroner's office). Yet, the two situations which took center stage was with the Keanu Reeves and Common showdown and with a rather annoying young boy character by the name of "Darius".

I refer to the "Darius" character as annoying because he appears to have been suffering from a form of attachment disorder; such as Disinhibited Social Engagement Disorder (referred to as DSED). It is somewhat more easy to recognize due to the sudden and early death of young "Darius's" mother. Of course, clinical analysis would be required to reach a more accurate conclusion. But, this is my hypothetical presupposition, as someone with an extensive background in Psychology, because of the way that young "Darius" became overly-attached to the "Daniel" character's young daughter as soon as he met her in this film.

And although this element engaged my interest, I found the conflicting situation between Keanu's "Bob" character and Common's "Daniel" character far more interesting. It was just amusing to watch "Daniel" trying to evade meeting with "Bob" during the afternoon because he was dreading such a meeting; which was certainly no surprise. The most comical aspect was the way "Bob" described "Daniel's" affair with his wife (in sexually explicit language) and how "Daniel" appeared to have had the audacity not to want to have such a meeting.

Actually, this made sense because if "Daniel" could be sexually intimate with "Bob's" wife, he should be mature and responsible enough to accept such a request from her husband. Even though, I think (in all fairness) that "Bob's" wife should have been there to accept responsibility for her deceitful and immoral behavior. Nevertheless, when the eventual meeting occurred, it was even more amusing when "Bob" demanded a rather inappropriate and explicit comparison be made between the pair of them within the confines of a public restroom.

All in all, this was quite an entertaining film that I enjoyed viewing. And I am certain that I am not, nor will be, the only one.
